1/365 - A Year in Black and White
1/1/16 - Every year since I’ve been doing Project 365, I tell myself this lie that I will not do it again next year. It is a lie because I always seem to start up again. As of two days ago, I was certain that 2015 was my last year. I was going to keep on with my 5x7 project, but no more Project 365. It was time consuming and I had run out of new ideas.
I had an idea on my way to work on Wednesday that changed my mind. I needed a change and the idea came to me to do the entire year in black and white. I have done a few pictures here and there in black and white, but not many. The idea appealed to me because it was new and different and it allowed me to go back to some of my old ideas and approach them in a new way. I figured that I would try the idea for a month – if I hate it, I will stop. I am not going all black and white for the year – just my Project 365 pictures. I am really hoping that it will be way to keep things fresh.
The first day of 2016, I went to one of my favorite spots – Kensington. The day was gray, which made everything seem black and white. I took a lot of pictures that I thought would be good in black and white, but they were not. I ended up with several that I really liked. This tree with all of its wild branches was not too interesting in color. I think that the character of the tree comes out a bit more in black and white. Hopefully this is a good sign for the rest of the year.
